The facility's strategic location on the southern shore of Lake Erie
minimizes transit time of vessels bound for Lake The Lorain Pellet Terminal's stationary vessel loader can load 20,000-ton, river-size shuttle vessels at 5,000 tons per hour. In addition to self-unloading vessels, the LPT is equipped to handle self-unloading tug barges. Both methods of transportation are used to deliver pellets to LTV Steel's Cleveland Works. The terminal covers 58 acres of land and has a total storage capacity of 550,000 tons. Pellets are kept separate in four different piles using movable partitions to maintain the integrity and quality of the various grades.
