Because steel is a globally produced and traded manufacturing material,
differentiating one supplier from another is difficult based exclusively
on product features and price. At LTV, we distinguish ourselves by being
committed to superior quality and service.
These examples illustrate our commitment:
Integrated Process Control
(IPC)
Involving all manufacturing and staff areas, from the CEO
to the newest employee, IPC is a disciplined approach
used to achieve consistency, reduce lead times, enhance
safety, increase productivity and lower costs. Through
IPC, every individual is trained as a process team member
to manage the moment-by-moment performance of the process
and to participate directly in its improvement. By
placing responsibility and authority where it can most
immediately impact the quality of the outcome, IPC has
reinforced pride of ownership in LTV Steel's processes
and its products.
Integrated process control involves a six-step model:
- Creating a positive environment
- Identifying key, measurable variables that
affect product quality
- Developing and consistently upgrading the
process control standards for these variables
- Written communication of all standards through
the Control Area Notebook or Handbooks
- Statistical monitoring of processes to meet
standards
- Diagnosing real or potential problems in order to correct processes
and raise our standards
ISO9002
All LTV Steel flat rolled, tin, and tubular product plants are certified
under the International Organization for Standardization's ISO9002. ISO
standards are accepted as worldwide measures of excellence in quality
management systems. Achieving ISO9000 certification is a prerequisite
for companies planning to succeed and grow in the global marketplace.
